Most people think spring has arrived when the trees start to bud, the crocus begin to bloom and the weather forecasts leave frost behind and look toward warmer days. I, on the other hand, know spring is upon us when I hear the hum of the power washer cleaning the front porch readying it for a fresh coat of paint. It is best when a bit of warm weather arrives before the pollen begins to fall and we have just those conditions today. So, here I sit listening to that hum as Bill preps the front with a good cleaning and then, once dry, a new coat of paint to welcome guests back for another great year at Flag House Inn.
We are officially beginning our 20th year as owners and operators of Flag House Inn this weekend. The old saying of “My how the times flies by” is certainly apt for us as we can hardly believe that much time has flown by since we left our professional careers behind and jumped into the life of innkeepers. When we started we had one child in high school and another in college. Now we have two wonderful daughters-in-law and three grandchildren with another on the way. The years here have been filled with our growing family as well as guests who have enriched our lives in so many ways – laughter, sometimes sharing tears, great stories and many friendships. What more could one ask for.
It is my joy to say “Welcome to our home” when guests arrive and we hope to do that many times more as we go through our 20th year.
