Hermione arrives in Annapolis, MD June 15, 2014

The French frigate, Hermione, an exact replica of the Hermione that carried General Marquis de Lafayette to the American colonies as they fought for independence from Great Britain will arrive in Annapolis on Monday evening June 15. It will be docked at the City Dock for viewing and tours (between 11 AM and 4 PM) on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 16 & 17.
This replica of the original Hermione was built with the tools of the 18th century and not with modern tools of the 21st century. Visit the ship, meet the crew and learn about the building and sailing of this glorious frigate which Lafayette said “sailed like a bird in the wind.” It took 17 years to build the frigate in France and when it arrives here in Annapolis it will have traveled well over 5000 nautical miles to get here.
During the days the Hermione is in Annapolis there will be exhibits of colonial crafts, period re-enactments, a parade from the City Dock to the Sons of the Revolution French Monument at St. John’s College campus (11 AM on Tuesday) with a wreath laying ceremony following.
Children and adults will enjoy visiting this beautiful frigate and learning or re-learning about Lafayette’s love of this country, friendship with George Washington and the impact that relationship had on the outcome of the Revolutionary War.
