If you are looking for a bluesy way to spend the weekend of May 16 & 17 you might consider coming to Annapolis and spending all or part of Saturday and Sunday at the Chesapeake Bay Blues Festival which is being held at Sandy Point State Park. The park is just a short drive from downtown Annapolis and sits right on the Chesapeake Bay with a fantastic view of the Bay Bridge. Headliners include Gregg Allman, Buddy Guy, Tommy Castro and The Painkillers as well as favorites including Shemekia Copeland, Harmonica journeyman Charlie Musselwhite and many more blues soloists and bands.
Gates open at 10:30 AM and the music runs from 11 AM – 9 PM on Saturday and until 8 PM on Sunday. There is limited parking at the Sandy Point State Park but shuttles will be running all day from the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium off of Taylor Avenue in Annapolis or from Kent Island High School in Stevensville on Kent Island. So grab your blanket, beach chair, sunscreen and sun glasses and check out the link above for costs as well as a list of all the performances throughout the two day event. Food and beverage will be available for sale at the festival (your coolers and food will not be admitted). Dancing shoes are welcome!
