Things have been busy here at Flag House Inn as the cooler weather has arrived and the leaves are beginning to change colors it brings more people on getaways to our lovely Historic City. If you have never been here it is a great time to visit as everything is open daily and although the crowds remain on the weekends mid-week gives you a view of the town those of us who live here have come to love and celebrate. Never too early to think of holiday shopping and there are numerous stores to help you find the perfect gift for loved one or friend.
The US Sailboat Show is currently underway at the City Dock and the US Power Boat Show is not far behind with that opening day on Oct 12. This is a welcome weekend for the midshipmen at USNA as Monday is Columbus Day celebration which means a long weekend and another day off the yard for this years Plebes as well as upperclassmen. Navy is playing the Air Force Academy this Saturday (Oct 7) which is always a grand competition between two rivals on the football field but together on the military field. We will be shouting Go Navy but also thankful for all the young men and women who have devoted their college experience not only to exploring their chosen academic field but also choosing to serve our country as officers in the Armed Services.
These past several weeks have seen so much destruction, devastation, heart ache and loss to so many Americans and I hope that everyone who reads this will take a moment and send a thought or prayer to all the victims of the natural and unnatural senseless tragedies that have occurred. If you are so inclined find a reputable charitable/relief agency and donate to help the many folks suffering right now. Relief workers tell us that a cash donation is best (rather then sending clothes, water, toys, etc) as they can then use the money locally to buy supplies to aid people but also help the devastated local economies to keep stores and services open and running.
