Annapolis, Maryland may be a small town but there certainly is a great deal of things going on for visitors to see and do. This week I am highlighting two of the live performances going on in our theaters around town during May.
The Colonial Players are presenting “These Shining Lives” beginning on May 9 and running through May 31. The story takes place between 1922 and 1938 and depicts events at a watch factory using radium dials which adversely effects the workers in the factory. It ultimately results in a Supreme Court case that makes companies responsible for the safety of their employees. The play focuses on the vitality of the lives and spirits of the women working in the factor during those years. The Colonial Players theater is located on East Street and an easy walk from Flag House Inn.
The Compass Rose Theater is presenting “Another Day on Willow Street” May 9 – 31. It is a story about two couples struggling with their relationships until the events of 9/11/01 change the world as well as their lives.
When you are meandering down along the City Dock of Annapolis you will be able to see the Sultana from May 10 – 17. The Sultana is a replica of a merchant vessel that was built in Boston before the American Revolution and was eventually commandeered by the British Navy and served as the smallest schooner in the British Navy for four years. The current Sultana was built between 1998 & 2001 in Chestertown, MD by hand with many volunteer hours. If you have never seen this beautiful ship mosey on down to the City Dock of Annapolis and view it while it is docked here in town.
