The excitement of Commissioning Week in May and then Induction Day in June at USNA have passed and we wish the graduates all the best as they embark on the next phase of their military careers and for the recently entering Plebes stamina and a good sense of humor to help get you through your six weeks of Plebe Summer here in “Crabtown” on the bay. To the parents of Plebes know it will all be over before you know it and your sons and daughters will begin their first semester as 4th Class Midshipmen at USNA. As my husband likes to tell entering Plebe families, “At times a day will seem like a year but more times a year will pass by like a day.”

Our city sponsored July 4th fireworks, here in the Annapolis harbor, were delayed because of rain so last night we locals enjoyed the beautiful display and were sorry for all those who had to miss it. The sky was clear. the air was cool and dry and we “oohed and aahed” in your stead. We have been here for 21 years and this is only the second time that the fireworks had to be delayed a day due to rain so that isn’t such a bad record. Today the rain has returned and we can’t complain as rain is always welcome during the heat of summer.

Next on the agenda in town are the many outdoor, free concerts that take place in and around Annapolis during the summer. This evening the Thursday night concerts at the Annapolis Maritime Museum will take place between 7 – 8:30 PM rain or shine. So gather up a blanket or some chairs and head over to Second Street on the Eastport Peninsula (just over the Spa Creek Bridge) and enjoy the concert. They run through August 18, are free (but a $10 donation per person is suggested) and there is food, beer & wine available for purchase during the concert. You will be sitting looking out onto the Chesapeake Bay – who could ask for more!

If you want to make an overnight visit part of your concert viewing just click on the “Check Availability” tab at the top of the page and make a reservation to stay with us here at Flag House Inn. Mention this blog and we will give you a 10% discount on your Monday – Thursday night stay during July and August.
